Herbert Russell Stevenson

Herbert (Bert) Russell STEVENSON is my great grand uncle; we are related through his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth (BUTLER) STEVENSON.  Bert was born 17 November 1884 in Zilwaukee, Michigan.[1]  He was enumerated in the 1900, 1910 and 1940 census in Michigan.[2]  Bert enlisted in the military in November 1907 and was released in 1910, there is little said of his enlistment.[3]  He and his family were also enumerated in a Canadian census in 1916.[4]  He married Mabel METIVIER 24 July 1913 in Michigan.  Bert and Mabel had seven children:  Lillian M., Katherine E., Milton B., Harold A., John (Jack) Donald, Herbert Quentin, and James Miles.  Once the family settled in Bay City, Michigan, they were listed in the city directories in the following years: 1926, 1929, 1933, 1935, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1950 and 1952.[5]  Along with the family addresses and at times phone numbers Bert’s occupation was listed in the city directories; he ranged from “salesman,” to “facility manager,” “mfg. agent,” and a few others.  The family moved a few times within Bay City, but settled into 304 Marquette Avenue as the last address for him and Mabel.  Bert died 17 September 1952 in Bay City, Michigan.[6]
