Mary Augusta WHITTAKER is my first cousin five times removed; we are related through her grandparents, my fifth great grandparents; Solomon I. and Christiana (SIMONTON) JORDAN. Mary was born to Captain John and Christiana (JORDAN) WHITTAKER, 16 September 1814 in possibly Massachusetts, but more likely Ellsworth, Maine. Mary married my second cousin five times removed, though they are unrelated, Dyer Peters JORDAN. They married 4 March 1841 in Ellsworth, Maine; their marriage was officiated by Rev. Allen Barrow. No children were ever listed with the family in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses; therefore I believe they were a childless couple; Mary and Dyer were enumerated in all censuses in Hancock County, Maine. Mary died 2 Jun 1888 at age 73; she is buried at Bayside Cemetery in Ellsworth.
