Margaret Wescott

Margaret WESCOTT is my fourth great grand aunt; we are related through her parents, my fifth great grandparents.  Margaret is the youngest of thirteen children born to William and Margaret (HANEY) WESCOTT.  She was born 30 October 1814 in Penoscot, Maine.[1]  She died 22 September 1833 in Penobscot.  She is buried at the end of a field behind the home of Albert and Betty Gross, her tombstone says the following:  In Memory of Miss Margaret Wescott” Daughter of Mr. William & Mrs. Margaret Wescott who died Sept. 22, 1833, Age 18 yrs., 10 mos. “Kind angels watch this sleeping dust, Till Jesus comes to rise the just, Then may she wake with sweet surprise, And in her Savior image rise.”[2]

Jonathan Cobb (7th great grandfather)

Jonathan COBB is my sixth great grandfather.  He is the son of Jonathan and Hope (CHIPMAN) COBB, born 26 April 1686 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.[1]  He married first Elizabeth VAUGHAN 1 December 1711 in Plimpton, Massachusetts.[2]  Elizabeth and Jonathan had nine children:  Elizabeth (Betty), Josiah, Sarah, Lydia, Ebenezer, Mary, Deborah, Jonathan and Jedediah.  He married second Lydia (THOMAS) HACKETT 7 July 1736 in Falmouth, Maine.[3]  Jonathan died 29 October 1777 in Falmouth.

Leverett D. Hopkins

Leverett D. HOPKINS is my second great grand uncle; we are related through his parents, my third great grandparents Sylvester and Julia A. (JELLISON) HOPKINS.  Leverett was the third of eight children born to the family.  He was born 28 October 1841 in Ellsworth, Maine.  He was enumerated with his family in Ellsworth in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.[1]  He served in the Civil War in Company F, 29th Regiment, and Maine Volunteers.[2]  He died 18 May 1864 at the Battle of Yellow Bayou in Avoyelles Parish Louisiana; his body is buried in Chalmette, his cenotaph is in Juniper Cemetery, Ellsworth, Maine.[3]
