Leverett D. Hopkins

Leverett D. HOPKINS is my second great grand uncle; we are related through his parents, my third great grandparents Sylvester and Julia A. (JELLISON) HOPKINS.  Leverett was the third of eight children born to the family.  He was born 28 October 1841 in Ellsworth, Maine.  He was enumerated with his family in Ellsworth in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.[1]  He served in the Civil War in Company F, 29th Regiment, and Maine Volunteers.[2]  He died 18 May 1864 at the Battle of Yellow Bayou in Avoyelles Parish Louisiana; his body is buried in Chalmette, his cenotaph is in Juniper Cemetery, Ellsworth, Maine.[3]
