George LOWELL

George is my seventh great granduncle; we are related through his parents Joseph and Mary (HARDY) LOWELL.  He was an inn-holder in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[1]

George LOWELL was born 28 March 1712 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[2]  There are various publications that state other dates such as 23 March 1712 and 2 January 1715, but I believe these to be untrue as I can find no official documents stating these dates.[3]  He died before 26 April 1763 in Newbury, Essex Massachusetts or Saco, York, Maine.[4]George married Elizabeth MORSS 29 June 1732, with intentions filed 22 April 1732.[5]  Elizabeth was born 2 April 1714 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[6]  She was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (MARCH) MORSE.  She married second to Joseph PARKER 9 August 1762 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[7]

George and Elizabeth had the following children:

  1. George LOWELL born 12 June 1734 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[8]
  2. Daughter LOWELL born January 1736 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[9]
  3. Samuel LOWELL born 17 February 1738 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[10] He died 23 February 1784 in Saco, York, Maine.[11]  Samuel married twice; first to Susan Ellen/Eleonore PHILBROOK about 1763 in Greenland, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[12]  He married second Charity BERRY 16 May 1771 in Saco, York, Maine with intentions filed 13 April 1771 in Saco, York, Maine.[13]  Samuel served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. John Elder’s Co., Col. Lemuel Robinson’s Regt.[14]
  4. Elizabeth LOWELL born 21 June 1741 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[15] She died 19 September 1772 in Newbury, Orange, Vermont.[16]  She is interred at Oxbow Cemetery in Newbury, Orange, Vermont.[17]  Elizabeth married Col. Thomas JOHNSON 12 February in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts or Newbury, Orange, Massachusetts; there are records stating both locations.[18]  Thomas was in command of a unit at the Battle of Ticonderoga in the Revolutionary War, he was also captured and taken to Canada and later released.[19]
  5. Sarah LOWELL born 4 April 1745 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[20]
  6. Ruth LOWELL born 7 October 1750 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[21] She died in 1793.[22]  Ruth married Pelatiah BLISS Jr., 12 August 1772 in Newbury, Orange, Vermont by Rev. Peter Powers.[23]  Pelatiah served in the Revolutionary War under his brother-in-law, Capt. Thomas JOHNSON.[24]
