John Chipman GRAY

John Chipman GRAY is my fourth cousin six times removed; we are related through John and Hope (HOWLAND) CHIPMAN and my fourth cousin six times removed; we are related through Henry and Sarah (HINKLEY) COBB.  John was educated at Harvard College in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts earning an A.M. degree graduating in 1811 and LL. D. in 1856.[1]  He was a Representative to General Court from 1828-1830, 1837-1840, 1843-1844, 1848-1850.[2]  A member of the Council in 1832.[3]  He was a State Senator of Massachusetts from 1835-1836, 1845-1850.[4] He was a representative of the Constitutional Convention in 1853[5].  He lived at 61 Mount Vernon Street in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[6]  John’s wife Elizabeth Pickering GARDNER is my fifth cousin, six times removed.  John and Elizabeth were enumerated in the 1850 census in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[7]

John Chipman GRAY born 24 December 1793 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts or 26 December 1793 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts[8].  He was the son of Honorable William and Elizabeth (CHIPMAN) GRAY.   He died 3 March 1881 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[9]  His body is interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts[10].  John married Elizabeth Pickering GARDNER 25 or 30 May 1820 by Reverend Charles LOWELL in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[11]  Elizabeth was born 11 March 1799.[12]  She is the daughter of Samuel Pickering and Rebecca Russell (LOWELL) GARDNER.  She died 8 June 1879 or 3 August 18799 in of disease of the heart from feeble circulation in Boston, Suffolk Massachusetts.[13]  She is interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[14]

John and Elizabeth didn’t have any children.
