William Hazen Colby

William Hazen COLBY is my first cousin five times removed we are related through his grandparents Solomon I. and Christiana (SIMONTON) JORDAN.  William is the eighth of ten children of Eli and Sarah Hardison (JORDAN) COLBY.  William was born 23 October 1828 in Ellsworth, Maine.  He was enumerated in the 1840 census in Hancock County, Maine, the 1850 census in Waltham, Maine.[1]  He served in the Civil was in the Coast Guard from 7 January 1865 to 7 July 1865.[2]  He was a shipbuilder in Maine.  He married Caroline Matilda (Carrie) TAYLOR.  They had one son: Charles B.  He belonged to the Star of Bethlehem lodge of the Masons.[3]  He and his family are enumerated in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses taken in Norridgewock, Maine.[4]  Not sure why but he was also enumerated in the 1880 census taken at Chelsea, Massachusetts as a border of the home of Martha Pearson, showing he is married and from Maine.[5]  He died in Norridgewock, Maine due to cancer of or on the neck.[6]  He is buried at River View Cemetery in Norridgewock.[7]
