Shadrach WATSON

Shadrach and second wife Susanna are my seventh great grandparents.   He bought land in Arundel, York, ME in 1736.[1]  He received land in Kennebunkport in a land grant.[2]  He was a defendant in a trespass case at the York Court of Common Pleas in April 1740.[3]  He was part of the Louisburg Expedition in Captain Thomas Perkin’s Company.[4]  Shadrach had a trading post at Naskeag in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[5] He lived in North Yarmouth, Cumberland, ME then Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[6]

 

Shadrach WATSON was born 3 February 1712/3 in Bradford, Essex, MA to parents John and Ruth (HARTSHORN) WATSON.[7]  It is believed he died in September 1770 in Wells, York, ME.  He married first Elizabeth BARKER.  Elizabeth was born 1712.  He married second Susanna KIMBALL on 16 August 1733 in Wells, York, ME.  Susanna was baptized 4 March 1710.  Her parents were Caleb and Susannah (CLOYES) KIMBALL.

 

Shadrach and Susanna had the following children:

  1. Samuel moved east as an adult.
  2. Molly married Thomas KIMBALL.
  3. Hannah married Joseph AVERILL.
  4. Susanna born about August 1738 in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 27 August 1738 at the Frist Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[8]  She married Samuel COUSINS 10 September 1757 in Arundel, York, ME.[9]  Samuel was born 29 November 1726.
  5. Abigail was born in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 14 February 1741/2 at First Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[10]  She died 19 May 1821 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.  Abigail married Josiah BLACK.  Josiah was born 2 Jul 1710 in Boxford, Essex, MA.  He is the son of James and Abigail (JOHNSON) BLACK.
  6. Ruth was born about August 1743 in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 28 August 1743 at the First Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[11]  She died 1801. Ruth married Abner CREDIFORD about 1793 in Arundel, York, ME.
  7. Mercy WATSON was born about 1752 in Wells, York, ME. She died 28 September 1828 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Mercy is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[12]  She married Samuel GRAY about 1766.  He was born 1750.  Samuel is the son of Joshua and Jennat (ELLIOT) GRAY.    He died 28 April 1843 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Samuel is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[13]

Heard Lord MOORE

Heard was my first cousin five times removed through his grandparents Joseph S. and Olive (GILPATRICK) MOORE, my fifth great grandparents.  Heard and his wife and family were enumerated in 1860 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[1]

Heard Lord MOORE was born 6 April 1812 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[2]  He was the son of Joseph and Margaret (MCFARLAND) MOORE.  He died 22 April 1888.[3]  He was interred at Brady Brook Cemetery in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[4]  Heard married Bathsheba HIGGINS on 11 April 1840.[5]  Bathsheba was born about 1820 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[6]  Bathsheba was the daughter of Josiah and Mary (COUSINS) HIGGINS.  Bathsheba died 7 August 1894 in OR.[7]

Heard and Bathsheba had the following children:

  1. Nahum was born 5 Jun 1841 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[8] He died at age 3 years, 9 months, 25 days on 30 March 1845 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.
  2. Margaret Ellen or Ellen Margaret was born 27 January 1843 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[9] She died of breast cancer on 22 September 1898 in Eden, Hancock, ME.[10]  She is interred at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor, Hancock, ME.[11]  She married Albion Francis JORDAN 29 December 1866 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME, service was officiated by Reverend Dr. TENNEY.[12]  Albion was born 10 October 1847 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[13]  He was the son of Matthew and Mary (CUMMINGS) JORDAN.  He is my Second cousin four times removed, fourth cousin five times removed and sixth cousin seven times removed.  Albion died 14 November 1906 in Bar Harbor, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor, Hancock, ME.[14]
  3. Judge Francis “Frank” Asbury was born 5 November 1844 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[15] He died 25 September 1918 in Salem, Marion, OR.  He is interred at City View Cemetery in Salem, Marion, OR.[16]  Francis married Emaline “Emma” SHINTAFFER 15 April 1866.  Emaline was born March 1849 in Jones, IA.  She is the daughter of Phillip L. and Hannah A. (MEEKER) SHINTAFFER.  She died 1916 in Salem, Marion, OR.  She is interred at City View Cemetery in Salem, Marion, OR.[17]
  4. Mary Augusta was born 10 December 1846 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[18] She died of meningitis on 9 May 1906 in Bar Harbor, Hancock, ME.[19]  She married and divorced Eben E. WALLS.[20]  He was born about 1844 in ME.
  5. Delia was born 21 October 1848 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[21] She married a Mr. LELAND.[22]
  6. James S. was born 1 July 1852 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[23] He died 29 June 1933 in Portland, Clackamas, OR.  He married Martha “Mattie” W. BABBIDGE in 1879.[24]  She was born December 1851 in ME.  She died 21 January 1921 in Portland, Clackamas, OR.
  7. Arthur Wayland was born 17 March 1855 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[25] He died 25 August 1943.  He married Antoinette MORGAN in 1885.  Antoinette was born 22 September 1859 in Yamhill, Yamhill, OR.  She was the daughter of Harbison B. and Elizabeth (MORGAN) MORGAN.  She died 15 September 1938 in OR.
  8. Addie C. was born 14 February 1857 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.[26] She married William PALMER.[27]

Mercy WATSON

Mercy is my sixth great grandmother.  She is the seventh and last child of Shadrach and Susanna (KIMBALL) WATSON.

Mercy WATSON was born about 1752 in Wells, York, ME.  She died 28 September 1828 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Mercy is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[1]  She married Samuel GRAY about 1766.  He was born 1750.  Samuel is the son of Joshua and Jennat (ELLIOT) GRAY.    He died 28 April 1843 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Samuel is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[2]

Mercy and Samuel had the following children:

  1. Captain Joseph (my fifth great grandfather) was born 8 November 1770 in Castine, Hancock, ME. He died 8 February.  He was buried at Captain Joseph Gray Cemetery in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[3]  Joseph married Anna GRINDLE 23 Dec 1797 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[4]  Anna was born 7 May 1779 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.  Her parents were Reuben and Hannah (LOWELL) GRINDLE.  Hannah died 1 October 1847.  She was interred at Captain Joseph Gray Cemetery in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[5]  Reuben was born in 1799 and died the same year.
  2. Rebecca was born 1775 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME. She died of dropsy in April 1850.[6]  Rebecca married John GRAY6 March 1798 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.
  3. Mercy was born 1778 in Maine. She died 1832 in Maine.  She was interred at Hillside Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[7]  Mercy married Adam GRAY.  Adam was born in 1782. He is the son of Reuben GRAY.  He died in 1857.  Adam is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[8]
  4. Samuel Augustus was born 22 August 1783 in Sedgewick, Hancock, ME.[9] He died 29 October 1837 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Samuel is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[10]   He married Abigail COUSINS 19 January 1808 in Maine.  She was born 20 November 1784 in Sedgewick, Hancock, ME.[11]  She is the daughter of Thomas and Lydia COUSINS.  Abigail died 1838 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[12]
  5. Jane “Jenny” was born 1785 in Maine. She died 16 July 1843 in Maine. She was interred at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom, Waldo, ME.[13]  Jane married John BILLINGS 29 December 1802 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[14]
  6. George was born 12 December 1786 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[15]
  7. Prudence “Prudy” was born 20 December 1788 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[16] She died 29 October 1830 in Maine.  Prudence was interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[17]  Prudence married Captain Malachi ORCUTT Jr. 11 April 1789 in Maine.  He was born 11 April 1789 in Maine.  He is the son of Malachi and Sarah (HOVEY) ORCUTT.  Malachi died 3 April 1858 in Maine.  He is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[18]
  8. Mary “Molly” was born 10 February 1790 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[19] Mary married Daniel GRINDLE 29 November 1806 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[20]
  9. Abigail was born 20 June 1792 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[21] Abigail married Jeremiah GRINDLE 2 September 1811 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[22]
  10. Sarah “Sally” was born 22 December 1794 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[23] She died 1860 in Maine.  Sarah married Walter WILLENS 18 April 1818 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[24]
  11. Elizabeth “Betsey” was born 4 March 1797 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[25] She died 10 July 1860 in Montville, Waldo, ME. She was interred at Old Grindle-Herrick Cemetery in South Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[26]  Elizabeth married Andrew GRINDLE 27 July 1817 Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[27]  Andrew was born 7 May 1793.  He died 4 March 1871.  Andrew is interred at Old Grindle-Herrick Cemetery in South Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[28]
  12. Susanna was born 4 March 1797 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[29] She died 11 October 1867 in Maine.  She is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[30]  Susan married twice, first to Samuel COUSINS 1 May 1816 in Maine.  Second to Nathaniel COUSINS in 1831.
