Leonard Goodwin FROST

Leonard is my eighth cousin four times removed; we are related through Percival and Rebecca LOWELL.  He had many professions: carpenter, sawmill worker, electrician, and farmer.[1]  He was enumerated with his parents in 1850 and 1860 in Eliot, York, Maine.[2]  He was enumerated with his wife and brother George in 1870 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts.[3]  He was enumerated with his wife and children in 1880 and 1900 in Berwick, York, Maine.[4]

Leonard Goodwin FROST was born 29 January 1848 in Eliot, York, Maine.[5]  He was the son of Joseph Dependence and Sarah M. (JELLISON) FROST.  He died 11 January 1909.[6]  He is interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick, York, Maine.[7]  Leonard married Ellen Frances SHAPLEIGH 4 June 1870 in Somersworth, Strafford, New Hampshire by Rev. Clark Carter.[8]  Ellen was born 13 April 1849 in Lebanon, York, Maine.[9]  She was the daughter of Edwin and Abbie H. (CARPENTER) SHAPLEIGH.  She died 8 January 1918 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts of hypertrophy and dilatation of heart.[10]  She is interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick, York, Maine.[11]

Leonard and Ellen had the following children:

  1. Ernest Albert FROST was born 23 July 1874 in Berwick, York, Maine.[12] He died 24 November 1919 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts of apoplexy and cerebral hemorrhage.[13]  He never married.
  2. Grace Lillian FROST was born 14 July 1876 in Berwick, York, Maine.[14] She died 7 September 1965 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts.  Grace married Alfred Willard DURGIN 9 June 1897 in Somersworth, Strafford, New Hampshire by Rev. G. H. SPENCER; intentions filed 29 May 1897.[15]  Alfred was born 29 January 1871.[16]  He was the son of Benjamin and Mary (COLE) DURGIN.  He died 28 November 1935 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts.  Grace and Alfred had no children.
  3. William Edwin FROST was born 15 November 1880 in Berwick, York, Maine.[17] He died in 1960.  William married Ruby CLINE.[18]  Ruby was born in 1899.  She died 28 September 1986.  She was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Florida.[19]  William and Ruby had two children.

Dependence FROST

Dependence is my sixth cousin, six times removed; we are related through Percival and Rebecca LOWELL.  He was enumerated with his wife and children in the 1850 and 1860 censuses taken in Eliot, York, Maine.[1]  He was listed as a laborer in both censuses.

Dependence FROST was born 31 December 1795 in Eliot or Kittery, York, Maine.[2]  He was baptized in June 1803 at the Second Parish Church in Kittery, York, Maine.[3]  Dependence was the son of Major Joseph and Mary (SHAPLEIGH) FROST.  He died 19 May 1863.[4]  He is interred at Frost Cemetery in Eliot, York, Maine.[5]  Dependence married Jemima Libby GOODWIN 9 February 1818 or 19 February 1822 in Eliot, York, Maine.[6]  Jemima was born 3 December 1799 in Eliot, York, Maine.[7]  Jemima was the daughter of Elisha and Jemima (LIBBY) GOODWIN.  She died 24 January 1872.[8]  She is interred at Frost Cemetery in Eliot, York, Maine.[9]

Dependence and Jemima had the following children:

  1. Elisha Whidden FROST was born 19 June 1824 in Eliot, York, Maine.[10]  It is believed that he was lost at sea in 1847.[11]
  2. Sarah Maria FROST was born 18 December 1826 in Eliot, York, Maine.[12] Sarah died 26 April 1905 on 4 Judson Street in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts of a cerebral hemorrhage.[13]  She is interred in Saco, York, Maine, at an unknown cemetery.[14]  Sarah married William Currier MERRILL 21 June 1847 by Rev. Leonard Withington in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts with intentions filed 5 June 1847 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts.[15]  William was born in 1822.  He was the son of Jacob and Dorothy (SANBORN) MERRILL.  He died in 1885.  They had four children.
  3. Joseph Dependence FROST was born 11 January 1828 in Eliot, York, Maine.[16] He died 17 April 1905 of apoplexy in Eliot, York, Maine.[17]  Joseph married Sarah M. JELLISON 31 July 1847 in Eliot, York, Maine.[18]  Sarah was born 14 September 1827 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine.[19]  She was the daughter of Alexander and Hannah (LIBBY) JELLISON.  She died 19 January 1897 of intestinal blockage in Eliot, York, Maine.[20]  They had ten children.
  4. Mary Jane FROST was born 29 March 1830 in Eliot York, Maine.[21] She died 3 July 1911 of angina pectoris in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[22]  She is interred at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[23]  Mary married Oliver Wormwood HAM 10 August 1848 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[24]  Oliver was born January 1826 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[25]  He is the son of Oliver W. and Mary (GREEN) HAM.  He died 10 October 1865 of consumption in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[26]  He is interred at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[27]
  5. Avoline or Evelyn FROST was born 13 April 1834 in Eliot, York, Maine.[28] Avoline married Edward H. DELANO 16 June 1858.[29]
  6. Dorcas Treadwell FROST was born 2 February 1838 in Eliot, York, Maine.[30] She died 18 April 1909.  She is interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in North Berwick, York, Maine.[31]  Dorcas married Charles A. R. WILEY 26 December 1855 in Eliot, York, Maine.[32]  Charles was born in 1834.  They had at least one child.
  7. Elizabeth (Lizzie) FROST was born 18 April 1844 in Eliot, York, Maine.[33] She died in 1877.  She is interred at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, York, Maine.[34]  Elizabeth married Benjamin Franklin RIDLON 12 January 1874 in New Hampshire.[35]  Benjamin was born in 1849 and died in 1919.  They had one child.

Elizabeth ABBOT

Elizabeth is my first cousin nine times removed; we are related through John GREENE and Lia BLOTT, my ninth great grandparents.  Elizabeth inherited “portion of corn or grist mill at Quamphegon with profits, one iron pott, half of the swine (except one sow) also my table with a new draw to it and two chairs, the new end of the dwelling house at Quamphegon” from her father Thomas on 20 April 1713 in Berwick, York, Maine.[1]  She was baptized and became a member of the First Church of Berwick on 8 February 1719/20 in Berwick, York, Maine.[2]

 

Elizabeth ABBOT was born in 1674 in Berwick, York, Maine.[3]  Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (GREEN) ABBOT.[4]  She died 2 December 1728 in Berwick, York, Maine.[5]  Elizabeth is interred at the Old Fields Cemetery in South Berwick, York, Maine.[6]  Elizabeth married Thomas BUTLER ca 1697 in Kittery, York, Maine.[7]  Thomas was born about 1674.[8]   He died 1747 in South Berwick, York, Maine.[9]  Thomas was baptized 2 September 1727 in South Berwick, York, Maine.[10]  Thomas was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery in South Berwick, York, Maine.[11]  Thomas arrived in Berwick before 11 May 1695.[12]  He was a school teacher, selectman and land owner.  He inherited from his father-in-law on 20 April 1713 “portion of the land at Quamphegon, mill, flume and dam.”[13]

 

Elizabeth and Thomas had the following children:

  1. Thomas BUTLER born 6 March 1698 in Berwick, York, Maine.[14] He died 12 February 1759 in Berwick, York, Maine.  Thomas married Mehitable GOODWIN in 1725 in Maine.[15]
  2. Elizabeth BUTLER born 22 September 1699 in Berwick, York, Maine.[16] Elizabeth married Thomas GOODWIN 22 December 1722.
  3. Abigail BUTLER born about 1701 in Berwick, York, Maine.
  4. Captain Moses BUTLER born 13 July 1702 in Berwick, York, Maine.[17] He died 13 December 1756 in Berwick, York, Maine.[18]  Moses married Mercy WENTWORTH in 1727 in Berwick, York, Maine.
  5. Love BUTLER she was born 10 July 1713 in Berwick, York, Maine.[19] She died December 1756.  Love married William FROST.

Eliot Frost SCAMMON

Eliot is my fourth cousin four times removed; we are related through his third great grandparents Dominicus and Hannah (TRISTRAM) JORDAN, my seventh great grandparents.  Eliot was enumerated with his mother in the 1860 census taken in Eliot, York, ME.[1]  He was enumerated with his wife and mother-in-law in the 1870 and 1880 censuses taken in Eliot, York, ME.[2]  He was a house carpenter.

Eliot Frost SCAMMON was born 14 December 1814 in Eliot, York, ME.[3]  He was the son of Nicholas and Sarah A. (FROST) SCAMMON.  He died 16 December 1891 in Eliot, York, ME.[4]  He is interred at the Scammon Plot in Eliot, York, ME.[5]  He married Sarah A. BRACEY 6 May 1868 in York, York, ME.[6]  Sarah was born 11 April 1823 in York, York, ME.  She was the daughter of Levi and Mary (QUIMBY) BRACEY.  Sarah died 21 August 1915.  She is interred at the Scammon Plot, in Eliot, York, ME.[7]

Eliot and Sarah had no children.

Elizabeth HALEY

Elizabeth is my eighth great grandaunt; we are related through her parents Andrew “King” and Deborah (WILSON) HALEY, my ninth great grandparents.

8 March 1765

“Mrs. Elizabeth Hight, aged 99, died in Newington, N.H., the first week beginning Feb. 24, 1765.  She was married four times and had 8 children, and about 300 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, most of whom survived her.”

Elizabeth HALEY was born between 1666 and 1672 in Kittery, York, ME.[1]  She died 24 February 1765 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[2]  Elizabeth married four times.  She married first John NELSON 1 January 1695 in York, York, ME.[3]  He was born 1668 in Hampton, Rockingham, NH.  He was the son of Charles and Mary (MARTYN) NELSON.  He died in 1702 in Kittery, York, ME.  She married second to William HOYT 10 March 1702.[4]  William was born 8 April 1676 in Salisbury, Merrimack, NH.[5]  His father was Thomas HOYT.  He died before 1718.  She married third to Nicholas HILLIARD 11 December 1718 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH.[6]  He was born 1668 in Hampton, Rockingham, NH.  She married fourth to Deacon John DAM 2 November 1732.[7]  He was born 23 February 1667 in Canada.  John was the son of Sergeant John and Sarah (HALL) DAM.

Elizabeth and John Nelson had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth was born 1696 in Kittery, York, ME. She married Jonathan DOWNING on 15 March 1716 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[8]
  2. Mary was born 18 July 1698 in Oyster River, Strafford, NH. She married Samuel HILL 22 November 1716 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[9]  Samuel was born 13 December 1696 in Durham, Strafford, NH. [10] Samuel was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (WILLIAMS) HILL.  He died 2 April 1767 in Strafford County, NH.

Elizabeth and William had the following children:

  1. Sarah was born 1705 in Newington, Rockingham, NH. She married Samuel NUTTER 18 May 1725 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[11]  Samuel was born about 1704 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.  He is the son of Henry and Mary (SHACKFORD) NUTTER.  He died 10 July 1771 in Newark, Essex, NJ.
  2. William HIGHT was born 1707 Kittery, York, ME. He died 30 November 1782 in Berwick, York, ME.  He was interred at Old Fields Cemetery in South Berwick, York, ME.[12]  He married Elizabeth WALTON 24 October 1734 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[13]  She was born in 1713 in Berwick, York, ME.  She was the daughter of George and Frances (ALLEN) WALTON. She died 18 April 1776 in Berwick, York, ME.  Her body is interred at Old Fields Cemetery in South Berwick, York, ME.[14]   He married second Mary KINNERSON 19 November 1777 in Berwick, York, ME.  She died 30 November 1782.
  3. John was born 24 Jun 1708 in Rockingham, NH. He died 1783 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.  He married Lydia MILLER 10 December 1728 in Rockingham, NH.[15]  Lydia was born in 1713 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH.  She was the daughter of Benjamin and Lydia (FERNALD) MILLER.  She died in 1763 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH.
  4. Abigail was born in 1710 in Kittery, York, ME. She married George BOYD 31 August 1730 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[16]  George was born 1708 in Boston, Suffolk, MA.  He died 6 October 1787.
  5. Elizabeth was born about 1715 Newington, Rockingham, NH. She married George COLBATH 28 November 1734 in Newington, Rockingham, NH.[17]  He was born about 1712.  He was the son of George and Mary (PITTMAN) COLBATH.
  6. Charles was born about 1716 in Rockingham, NH.  He died about 1761.  He possibly married twice first to Jane.  Second possible marriage was Alice FROST.
