Joseph LOWELL

Joseph and Mary are my seventh great grandparents.  He is the son of Joseph and Mary (HARDY) LOWELL.  She is the daughter of Joseph and Mary (PROWSE) JONES.

Joseph LOWELL was born 20 February 1721 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[1]  He married Mary JONES 11 February 1745 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[2]  Mary was born 5 February 1725 in Amesbury, Essex, MA.[3]

Joseph and Mary had the following children:

  1. Anna “Nanne” LOWELL was born 14 February 1746 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[4] She died 1 May 1819 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[5]  Anna married Joshua GRINDLE about 1769.  Joshua is my sixth great granduncle; Joshua and Ann are not related by blood.  Joshua was born 31 March 1746 in Berwick, York, ME.  He is the son of John and Elizabeth (DOOR) GRINDLE.  Joshua died 21 February 1819 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[6]
  2. Eliphalet LOWELL was born 13 August 1748 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[7] He died 18 October 1836 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  His body was interred at Hillside Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[8]  Eliphalet married Elizabeth HENEY 11 February 1774 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  Elizabeth is my fifth great grandaunt through her parents, Archibald and Margaret Susannah (HOWARD) HANEY.  Elizabeth was born 26 June 1758 in Bath, Sagadahoc, ME.  She died 28 July 1833 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  Her body is interred at Hillside Cemetery Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[9]
  3. Hannah was born 2 February 1748 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[10] She died 9 August 1759 at the age of 10.
  4. Francis was born 22 December 1751 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[11] He died 28 March 1763 at the age of 11.
  5. Mary was born 19 May 1754 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[12] She married Joseph WEBBER.  He was born 19 September 1745 in York County, ME.
  6. Stephen was born 18 July 1756 in Newbury, Essex, MA.[13] There is a belief that he was captured by Algerian pirates, but thus far no proof has been found.
  7. Hannah was born 23 January 1759 in Newbury, Essex, MA. She died 1802 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  She is interred at Johnson’s Point Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  Hannah married Reuben GRINDLE in December 1777 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  He was born 20 March 1757 in Lebanon, York, ME.  He is the son of John and Elizabeth (DOOR) GRINDLE.  He died 15 July 1835.  Hannah and Reuben are my sixth great grandparents.
  8. Lydia was born January 1762 in Newbury, Essex, MA or Penobscot, Hancock, ME.
  9. Joseph was born 13 December 1765 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME. He died 8 January 1843. He is interred at Wescott Cemetery in Castine, Hancock, ME.[14]   He married Judith FREEMAN 22 January 1802.  Judith was born 28 December 1766.  She died 13 August 1835.  She is interred at Wescott Cemetery in Castine, Hancock, ME.[15]
  10. Nancy was born 7 April 1769. She married Captain David JENKINS.

Archibald WESCOTT

Archibald is my fourth great granduncle through his parents William and Margaret (HANEY) WESCOTT, my fifth great grandparents.  And he is my seventh cousin three times removed through his sixth great grandparents John and Elizabeth (BIRCHARD) ALCOCK, my ninth great grandparents.  Archibald was enumerated in the 1820 and 1830 censuses in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[1]  He was enumerated in the 1850 census in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[2]  Archibald owned a general store and was interested in ship building along with being a farmer most of his life.

Archibald WESCOTT was born 16 February 1792 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  He died 23 April 1869 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[3]  Archibald married twice, first to Nancy LYMBURNER 31 December 1812 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[4]  Nancy was born 6 September 1794 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  Nancy was the daughter of Cunningham and Elizabeth (STOVER) LYMBURNER.  She died 19 June 1844.  Archibald married second to Edith W. HINCKLEY.  She was born 22 January 1795 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  She died 13 November 1866 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.    Edith is interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[5]

Archibald and Nancy had the following children:

  1. Joseph born 13 July 1813 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[6] He died of paralysis on 20 Jun 1883 in Portland, Cumberland, ME.[7]  He is interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Cumberland, ME.[8]  Joseph married Caroline Herrick “Carrie” BROWN 14 September 1839 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[9]  Caroline was born about 1818. She was the daughter of Samuel and Ruth (HORTON) BROWN.   She died after 1886 in Washington, D.C.  Caroline was interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Cumberland, ME.[10]
  2. Louisa C. “Lovicey” WESCOTT was born 13 February 1815 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[11] She died of apoplexy on 13 December 1893 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[12]  Louisa was interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[13]  Louisa married Elnathan HINCKLEY 23 August 1838 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[14]  Elnathan was born 25 April 1802 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  He is the son of Ebenezer and Elisabeth (COGGINS) HINCKLEY.  He died 5 December 1869.  Elnathan was interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[15]
  3. Elizabeth “Betsey” born 4 March 1817 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[16] She died in December 1887 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  Betsey married John Stewart TREWORGY 24 March 1836 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[17]  John was born 3 May 1809 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  He is the son of Spencer and Sarah (TOWNSEND) TREWORGY 24 March 1836 Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[18]  John died 2 December 1847 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  He was interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[19]
  4. Amos born 15 September 1819 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[20] He died 24 July 1871. He is interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[21]
  5. Dorshes was born 15 April 1822 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[22] She died 28 August 1827 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.
  6. Nancy was born 15 May 1826 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[23] She died of scarlatino anginosa on 12 May 1866 in Boston, Suffolk, MA.[24]  Nancy married Joseph Parris Peters 28 September 1848 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[25] Joseph was born 13 April 1824 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  He was the son of Lemuel and Betsey (WOOD) PETERS.  Joseph died in 1863.
  7. Mary Jane was born 5 May 1829 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[26] She died in 1833 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.

Elizabeth WESCOTT

Elizabeth is my fourth great grand aunt.  We are related through her parents, my fifth great grandparents, William Jr. and Margaret (HANEY) WESCOTT.  Elizabeth and Jeremiah were enumerated in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME in the 1850 census.[1]  Elizabeth was enumerated with her son Hazael in the 1860 census in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[2]  Elizabeth was enumerated living by herself in the 1870 census in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[3]

 

Elizabeth “Betsey” WESCOTT was born 23 November 1789 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[4]  She died 17 February 1871 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  Elizabeth married twice, first to Ebenezer GRANT 26 May 1807 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME, intentions filed 15 March 1807 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[5]  Ebenezer was born 20 April 1785 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[6]  He was the son of Alexander and Abigail (STAPLES) GRANT.  Elizabeth married second to Jeremiah VARNUM 12 September 1811 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME, intentions filed 4 August 1811 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[7]  Jeremiah was born 8 January 1782 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  He died 26 November 1856 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.  Jeremiah was interred at Seaside Cemetery in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[8]

 

Elizabeth and Ebenezer had one child:

  1. William B. was born 17 July 1808 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[9] William married Thankful MARKS.  Thankful was born 24 April 1812 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.  She died 24 March 1893 in Orland, Hancock, ME.  She was interred at Thompson Family Cemetery in Orland, Hancock, ME.[10]

Elizabeth and Jeremiah had the following children:

  1. Jeremiah born 8 December 1813 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[11]
  2. Amos born 26 February 1817 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[12]
  3. Hazael [male] was born 25 March 1821 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[13]
  4. Horace born 21 July 1831 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[14]

Mercy LOWELL

Mercy is my first cousin six times removed; we are related through her grandparents, my seventh great grandparents, Joseph and Mary (JONES) LOWELL.

Mercy LOWELL was born 15 February 1791 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[1]  Mercy is the daughter of Eliphalet and Elizabeth (HANEY) LOWELL.  She died 10 September 1866 in Waldoboro, Lincoln, ME.  Mercy is interred at Old German Cemetery in Waldoboro, Hancock, ME.[2]  Mercy married John SIDES 31 May 1824 in Warren, Hancock, ME, intentions published 15 May 1824.[3]  John was born 1779 in Waldoboro, Lincoln, ME.  He died 29 Jul 1837.  John was interred at Old German Cemetery in Waldoboro, Hancock, ME.[4]

Mercy and John had the following children:

  1. Eliza was born 1826. She died 21 September 1853.  Eliza is interred at Old German Cemetery in Waldoboro, Hancock, ME.[5]
  2. Henrietta C. was born about 1831 in Waldoboro, Hancock, ME. She married Andrew M. Pierce 23 December 1854 by Rev. J. Streeter.[6]  Andrew was born about 1827.  He is the son of William Pierce.
  3. Alice was born 1 August 1837 in Waldoboro, Hancock, ME. She died 6 November 1865 in Waldoboro, Lincoln, ME.  She was interred at Dutch Neck Cemetery in Waldoboro, Lincoln, ME.[7]  Alice married Arthur Jones TROWBRIDGE in 1860 in Waldoboro, Lincoln, ME.[8]

Theodosia (Dosha) WESCOTT

Dosha was my fourth great grandaunt; we were related through her parents, my fifth great grandparents, William and Margaret (HANEY) WESCOTT.  She was enumerated in the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses with her husband and family in Penobscot, Hancock, ME, she is listed as having “debility” in the 1880 census, but no further information is given.[1]

Theodosia WESCOTT was born 15 February 1801 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[2]  She died 23 July 1882 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  Her body was interred at Wight Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[3]  Theodosia married Edward WIGHT 1 July 1821 in Blue Hill, Hancock, ME.[4]  Edward is the son of Edward and Hannah (PERKINS) WIGHT.  Edward is my second cousin six times removed; related through his great grandparents, my seventh great grandparents, John and Elizabeth (PIERCE) PERKINS.  Edward and Theodosia are first cousins through John and Elizabeth (PIERCE) PERKINS.  Edward was born 22 July 1797 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[5]  He died 8 May 1885 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  He was interred at Wight Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[6]

Dosha and Edward had the following children:

  1. Margaret born 11 March 1824 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[7] She died 5 September 1825 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[8]
  2. Joanna was born 22 August 1825 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[9]
  3. Lucy Maria was born 23 May 1827 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[10] She died of abdominal dropsy on 24 October 1893 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[11]  She was interred at Wight Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[12]
  4. Margaret was born 29 July 1829 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[13] Margaret died 28 May 1917 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME. She is interred at Wight Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[14]
  5. Hezekiah was born 3 October 1831 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[15]
  6. Francis Augusta was born 4 June 1833 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[16] He died 3 September 1834 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[17]
  7. Francis (Frank) was born 7 May 1835 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[18] He died 15 November 1863 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Wight Cemetery in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[19]
  8. Arthur Edward was born 12 August 1837 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[20] He died after 22 Jun 1900 in Caribou, Aroostook, ME.[21]  He married Hannah E.
  9. Emily was born 12 July 1840 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[22]
  10. Pearl was born 22 March 1843 in Penobscot, Hancock, ME.[23] He married Helen L.
