Shadrach WATSON

Shadrach and second wife Susanna are my seventh great grandparents.   He bought land in Arundel, York, ME in 1736.[1]  He received land in Kennebunkport in a land grant.[2]  He was a defendant in a trespass case at the York Court of Common Pleas in April 1740.[3]  He was part of the Louisburg Expedition in Captain Thomas Perkin’s Company.[4]  Shadrach had a trading post at Naskeag in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[5] He lived in North Yarmouth, Cumberland, ME then Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.[6]

 

Shadrach WATSON was born 3 February 1712/3 in Bradford, Essex, MA to parents John and Ruth (HARTSHORN) WATSON.[7]  It is believed he died in September 1770 in Wells, York, ME.  He married first Elizabeth BARKER.  Elizabeth was born 1712.  He married second Susanna KIMBALL on 16 August 1733 in Wells, York, ME.  Susanna was baptized 4 March 1710.  Her parents were Caleb and Susannah (CLOYES) KIMBALL.

 

Shadrach and Susanna had the following children:

  1. Samuel moved east as an adult.
  2. Molly married Thomas KIMBALL.
  3. Hannah married Joseph AVERILL.
  4. Susanna born about August 1738 in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 27 August 1738 at the Frist Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[8]  She married Samuel COUSINS 10 September 1757 in Arundel, York, ME.[9]  Samuel was born 29 November 1726.
  5. Abigail was born in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 14 February 1741/2 at First Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[10]  She died 19 May 1821 in Sedgwick, Hancock, ME.  Abigail married Josiah BLACK.  Josiah was born 2 Jul 1710 in Boxford, Essex, MA.  He is the son of James and Abigail (JOHNSON) BLACK.
  6. Ruth was born about August 1743 in Wells, York, ME. She was baptized 28 August 1743 at the First Church of Wells, Wells, York, ME.[11]  She died 1801. Ruth married Abner CREDIFORD about 1793 in Arundel, York, ME.
  7. Mercy WATSON was born about 1752 in Wells, York, ME. She died 28 September 1828 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Mercy is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[12]  She married Samuel GRAY about 1766.  He was born 1750.  Samuel is the son of Joshua and Jennat (ELLIOT) GRAY.    He died 28 April 1843 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  Samuel is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[13]

Abigail KIMBALL

Abigail is my third cousin five times removed; we are related through Thomas and Margaret (MEANS) GILPATRICK, my seventh great grandmother.  Abigail and her husband Tristram were enumerated in the 1880 census in Raritan Township, East New Brunswick, Middlesex, NJ.[1]  Abigail and her family moved many times.  They lived in Bangor and Passadumkeag, ME while her husband worked in the government and lumber business.[2]  They lived at 78 Street in Boston, Suffolk, MA.[3]  They then lived in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.[4]  They then lived in Harlem, NY.[5] They then moved to New Jersey living in Metuchen and Raritan Township.[6]  Abigail’s husband Tristram was the author of The Jordan Memorial, a book that to this day is used as a great source of Jordan family ancestry.[7]

Abigail KIMBALL was born 12 April 1812 in Kennebunk, York, ME.[8]  She was the daughter of James and Sarah (KIMBALL) KIMBALL.  She died 18 May 1888 in Raritan Township, Somerset, NJ.[9]  She is interred in Cambridge, Washington, NY.[10]  Abigail married Tristram Frost JORDAN 6 October 1831 in Kennebunkport, York, ME.[11]  Tristram was born 30 September 1804 in Hollis, York, ME.[12]  He was the son of Joseph and Mary (LEIGHTON) JORDAN.  Tristram is my third cousin five times removed.  Abigail and Tristram are not related by blood.  He died 12 October 1890 in Metuchen, Middlesex, NJ.[13]

Abigail and Tristram had the following children:

  1. Helen Amanda was born 25 August 1832 in Bangor, Penobscot, ME.[14] She was interred in Metuchen, Middlesex, NJ.[15]  Helen married Judson Henry GILBERT 8 August 1856 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.[16]  Judson was born 22 June in 1833 in Shushan, Washington, NY.[17]  He was the son of Samuel and Lydia (BEERS) GILBERT.  He died 26 January 1893 in New York City, New York, NY.[18]
  2. Albert Francis was born 1 December 1834 in Bangor, Penobscot, ME.[19] He died 19 January 1911 in New York, Queens, NY.[20]  He is interred at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.[21]  Albert married three times; first to Mary Ann MAGUIRE July 1853.[22]  Mary was born March 1837 in Ireland.[23]  She died 19 February 1855 in Boston, Suffolk, MA.  He married second to Annie KELLEY.[24]  He married third to Annie LOWRY in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.[25]  Anne was born  in 1848 in New York, Queens, NY.[26]
  3. Edwin Franklin was born 10 May 1836 in Passadumkeag, Penobscot, ME. [27] He died 3 September in Bayonne, Hudson, NJ.[28] He is interred in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY.[29]  Edwin married Louisa Aimes HAGADORN 19 September 1867 at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY.[30]  Louisa was born 21 December 1845.[31]  She was the daughter of John HAGADORN.
  4. Sarah Kimball was born September 1840 in Passadumkeag, Penobscot, ME.[32] She lived 4 days.
  5. George Leighton was born 28 February 1844 in Passadumkeag, Penobscot, ME.[33] He died 9 March 1909 in New York, NY.[34]  He was interred at Laurel Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY.[35]  George married Emma SMITH 4 June 1874 at Howard Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.[36]  They divorced 18 September 1892.[37]
  6. Mary Abigail was born 18 October 1846 in Passadumkeag, Penobscot, ME.[38] She died 14 June 1928 in Manhattan, New York, NY.[39]  She was interred at Mountain Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo, MI.[40]  Mary married Hiram Channing UNDERWOOD 31 July 1868 in Harlem, New York, NY.[41]  Hiram was born 6 August in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, MI.[42]  He was the son of Hiram and Eliza (PATRICK) UNDERWOOD.  He died 11 March 1913 in New York, NY.[43]  He is interred at Mountain Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, MI.[44]

Hannah JORDAN

Hannah is my fourth great grand aunt through her parents Solomon I. and Christiana (SIMONTON) JORDAN, my fifth great grandparents.  She is also my fourth cousin nine times removed through her third great grandparents, John and Elizabeth (BIRCHARD) ALCOCK, my ninth and twelfth great grandparents.  Her husband George HASLAM is my second cousin seven times removed through his great grandparents, Richard and Hannah (HALEY) WESCOTT, my eighth great grandparents.  This makes their children my first cousins five times removed, third cousins six times removed and fifth cousins eight times removed.  Many of them married people also related to me.  Hannah and George are not related by blood.

Hannah JORDAN was born 11 April 1775 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[1]  She is the daughter of Solomon I. and Christiana (SIMONTON) JORDAN.  She died 29 March 1857.  Her body is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[2]  Hannah married George HASLAM 16 June 1791 in Sullivan, Hancock, ME by Paul Dudley SARGENT, justice of the peace.[3]  George was born 6 May 1770 in Portland, Cumberland, ME.  He is the son of George and Prudence Mary (WESTCOAT) HASLAM.  George died 23 April 1856.  His body is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[4]

Hannah and George had the following children:

  1. Mary T. “Polly” was born 30 April 1792 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[5] She died 20 November 1880 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  Mary married Richard COOK in 1813.  Richard was born 1785 in New Brunswick, Canada.[6]  He died 28 November 1841 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[7]  He is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.
  2. Emma J. was born in 1793 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME. She died in 1816.  She married David MCFARLAND.[8]  David was born 12 April 1786 in Hancock, Hancock, ME.  He is the son of Thomas and Jane (SMITH) MCFARLAND.  He died 4 February 1868 in Hancock, Hancock, ME.  He was interred at Pine Tree Cemetery in Hancock, Hancock, ME.
  3. John P. was born 8 March 1799 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[9] He died 25 November 1877 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[10]  John married Louisa P. HOPKINS 10 July 1825.  Louisa was born 2 October 1808 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of David Ross and Olive (MOORE) HOPKINS.  Louisa is my third great grandaunt.  She died 5 February 1886 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[11]
  4. George III was born 1800 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME. He drowned, unknown as to what age he was.[12]
  5. Solomon was born 28 April 1801 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[13] He died 21 January 1864 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred in Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[14]  Solomon married Clarissa MOSELY 21 September 1829.[15]  Clarissa was born 1805 in Hancock, Hancock, ME.[16]  She is the daughter of James MOSELY.  She died 8 November 1875 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[17]

Eliakim Westcott “Like” was born 16 March 1803 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[18] He died 17 January 1880 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[19]  Eliakim married three times; first to Elizabeth “Eliza” INGALLS about 1827.[20]  Elizabeth was born 16 June 1806 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (MITCHELL) INGALLS.  She died 12 October 1829 in Waltham, Hancock, ME [just five days after the birth of her daughter Elizabeth].  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[21]  He married second, Susan WILBUR 24 January 1831 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[22]  Susan was born 28 April 1813 in Eastbrook, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of Ebenezer “Eben” and Elizabeth “Betsey” (FORD) WILBUR.  She died 24 June 1854 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[23]  He married last to Hannah W. BOWDEN after 1853.[24]  Hannah was born in October 1817 in Hancock, Hancock, ME.  She was the daughter of Twisden and Lydia (FORD) BOWDEN.  She died 12 October 1904 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[25]  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME in an unmarked grave.[26]
  7. Nahum Jordan was born 19 June 1806 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[27] He died 27 March 1879 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred in Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[28]  Nahum married Harriet J. KIMBALL 16 April 1828.[29]  Harriet was born 2 March 1808 in Amherst, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of Moses and Elizabeth (NORCROSS) KIMBALL.  She died 5 October 1901 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[30]  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[31]
  8. Hannah L. was born 10 August 1808 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[32] She died 1 February 1897 in Mariaville, Hancock, ME.[33]  She is interred at Brimmer Cemetery in Mariaville, Hancock, ME.  Hannah married Alanson JORDAN 1 January 1829 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[34]  Alanson was born 7 February 1807 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  He is the son of Ebenezer and Phebe H. (SMITH) JORDAN.  He is my second cousin five times removed through his great grandparents Nathanial and Dorothy (HILL) JORDAN, my sixth great grandparents and my fifth cousin eight times removed through his fourth great grandparents, my ninth and twelfth great grandparents. He died 20 February 1892 in Mariaville, Hancock, ME.[35]  He is interred at Brimmer Cemetery in Mariaville, Hancock, ME.[36]
  9. Christiana W. was born 26 October 1809 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[37] He died 26 November 1853.  She is interred at Simpson Cemetery in Sullivan, Hancock, ME.[38]  Christiana married Moses SMITH 1 January 1828.[39]  Moses was born 7 March 1804 in Waterboro, York, ME.  He is the son of John E. and Experience (HAMILTON).  He died 6 June 1870 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[40]
  10. Walter J. was born 3 October 1811 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[41] He died 9 February 1890 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[42]  Walter married Phebe H. Woodward 9 May 1839 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME by Rev. Allen Barrow.[43]  Phebe was born 15 January 1819 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of Captain Stephen Gage and Lucy Elizabeth (JORDAN) WOODWARD.  She is my third cousin four times removed through her second great grandparents Nathaniel and Dorothy (HILL) JORDAN, my sixth great grandparents; and my sixth cousin seven times removed through her fifth great grandparents John and Elizabeth (BIRCHARD) ALCOCK, my ninth and twelfth great grandparents.  Phebe and Walter are second cousins once removed.  Phebe died 17 May 1900 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[44]  She is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[45]
  11. Phebe J. was born 21 December 1814 in Waltham, Hancock, Me.[46] She died of heart disease on 30 January 1892 in Sanford, York, ME.[47]  She is interred in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  Phebe married John Ford WILBUR 20 March 1834.[48]  John was born 1 January 1811 in Eastbrook, Hancock, ME.[49]  He is the son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (FORD) WILBUR.  He died 19 November 1889 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  He is interred at the Church Cemetery in Eastbrook, Hancock, ME.
  12. Sarah Colby “Sally” was born 16 February 1816 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.[50] She died 30 November 1901 in Sanford, York, ME.[51]  She is interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[52]  Sarah married Horace BENNETT 7 June 1837.  Horace was born 9 October 1813 in South Sanford, York, ME.  He is the son of Rufus and Anna (BATCHELDER) BENNETT.  He died 15 October 1880.[53]

Lydia Boaden

Lydia BOADEN is my first cousin eight times removed; we are related through her grandparents, my eighth great grandparents, William and Mary (YOUNG) WORMWOOD.  Lydia is the sixth child of Abraham and Martha (WORMWOOD) BOADEN, born 20 September 1720 in York, Maine.[1]  Lydia married Eleazer KIMBALL before 1745 in York, Maine.[2]  Lydia and Eleazer had two children:  Caleb and Lydia.  Lydia died before November 1748, the date of Eleazer’s second marriage to Elizabeth Seavey.[3]

 

There are many variations of the name BOADEN: BODEN, BOODY, BOODEN, BOWDEN, BOWDON, BODIN, BOYDEN, BODINUS, BOIDEN, and many more.

John Haslam, Jr.

John HASLAM Jr., is my first cousin four times removed, we are related through his grandparents; David Ross and Olive (MOORE) HOPKINS.  John was born 21 August 1826 in Waltham, Maine to the first of seven children of John P and Louisa P (HOPKINS) HASLAM.  John was enumerated with his parents in the 1850 census taken in Waltham.[1]  John married Abigail (Abbie) Kimball GILES in 1852, they had nine children: Alanson F., Elizabeth, Samuel, Aldis P., Roscoe, Moses G., John Jr., Cynthia Etta, and Hellen G.  John, Abbie and family were enumerated in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censes in Waltham.[2]  John was enumerated with his son Moses’ family for the 1900 census in Waltham.[3] He worked as a farmer most of his life, towards the end he was a farm laborer.   John died just one week before the 1910 census of Waltham was taken, he died 4 April 1910, in Waltham, Maine, he is buried in an unmarked grave, either the headstone is no longer in place or there was no headstone, it is unknown at this time.
