Moses Abbot

Moses is my first cousin nine times removed.  We are related through John and Judith Elizabeth (GREENE) BLOTT.  According to the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire he was living in 1707.[1]  He inherited land from his father at Strawberry Bank, in Berwick, York, Maine.[2]  He was also deeded land about 1729 according to Maine: Early Wills and Deeds Moses served from September 1710 to 26 November 1710 in the Massachusetts Militia under Captain Samuel Partridge.[3]  Moses, son of John Abbott, was born Sept. 1, 1704, in Berwick. He is credited with the following colonial service: private, thirty-one weeks, six days, Captain William Gerrish’s company, scouting between Lebanon and Saco river, March 5 to November 1, 1756; private, thirty-eight weeks, five days, Captain Humphrey Chadburn’s company, March 5 to Nov. 30, 1760, fourteen days billeting house.[4]  He was a mariner, it’s unknown if he was a captain or a deck hand.  He was bAbbot, Moses 7875 Boston mapaptized and became a member of the Second Church in Boston 10 January 1702.[5]

Moses ABBOT was born 20 January 1667 in Berwick, York, Maine.[6]  He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (GREENE) ABBOT.  He died at sea in February 1716.[7]  Moses married Rebecca KNIGHT 11 September 1701 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts by Pen Townsend, Esquire.[8]  Rebecca was born 14 October 1680 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts to Richard and Hannah (TOWNSEND) KNIGHT.[9]  She died 3 October 1741.[10]

Moses and Rebecca had 7 children, little is known about most of his children.

  1. Reverend Hull ABBOT was born 15 June 1702 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[11] He was baptized 1 July 1702 at the Second Church of Boston, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[12]  Hull attended 2 years of Harvard paid Thomas Hollis of England.[13] He was ordained 5 February 1724 by Reverenced Cotton Mather.[14]   He died 19 April 1774 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.  He married Mary BRADSTREET 27 July 1731 by Reverend W. Simon BRADSTREET.[15]  Mary was born 9 September 1703 in Charleston, Massachusetts.[16]  She was the daughter of Reverend Simon Bradstreet and Mary Long.  Mary died 13 May 1763[17].  Hull ABBOT was active in many of the colonial events of the time.[18]  They had 10 children.
  2. Moses ABBOT was born 28 March 1704 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[19] Moses was baptized 2 April 1704 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[20] He died 1706 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[21]
  3. Elizabeth ABBOT was born 10 March 1706 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[22] She was baptized 16 April 1707 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[23]  She died 18 July 1788 in Princeton, Worcester, Massachusetts.  Elizabeth, she married twice first to John DOWSE 17 April 1740 in Charleston, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[24]  She married second to Michael BRIGDEN 17 April 1740.[25]
  4. Richard ABBOT was born 18 February 1808 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[26] Richard was baptized 20 February 1708 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[27]  He died 6 July 1774.  He married Hannah Thayer 8 May 1739 at the First Church of Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[28]  He died 6 July 1774.  Richard married Hannah THAYER 8 May 1739 at the First Church of Boston, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.
  5. Moses ABBOT was born 3 August 1711 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[29] Moses was baptized 5 August 1711 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[30]  He died 1 May 1734 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[31]
  6. Rebekah ABBOT was born before 6 September 1713 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[32] Rebekah was baptized 6 September 1713 in Boston, Suffolk Massachusetts.[33]
  7. Ebenezer ABBOT was born in July 1717 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[34] Ebenezer was baptized 7 July 1717 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[35]

Sarah WEARE

Sarah is my third cousin eight times removed.  We are related through William and Frances HILTON, my tenth great grandparents.  Her husband Captain Thomas BRAGDON was a Revolutionary War Veteran having served from 10 July 1775 to 8 December 1780.[1]

Sarah WEARE was born 6 June 1743 in York, York, ME.[2]  She is the daughter of Joseph and Mary (WEBBER) WEARE.  Sarah died 22 March 1787 or 1789 in York County, ME.[3]  She married Captain Thomas BRAGDON 13 or 16 September 1764 in York, York, ME by Rev. Isaac LYMAN, intentions filed 16 August 1764.[4]  Thomas was born 8 April 1738 in York, York, ME.[5]  He was the son of Thomas and Mary (CAME) BRAGDON.  He died either in 1811 in York County, ME or 1828.[6]

Sarah and Thomas had the following children:

  1. John Weare BRAGDON born about 1771.[7] He died 1855.[8] He married Hannah CHASE 29 August 1795 in York, York, ME.[9]
  2. Sarah BRAGDON was born 2 March 1771 in York, York, ME. She died of old age on 17 October 1855 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.[10]  She married three times.  First to William HINCKLEY 10 June 1796 in York, York, ME.[11]  William was born about 1773.  He died April 1798 at sea.  His cenotaph is at First Parish Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.[12]   Second she married Daniel LUNT 25 September 1803 in Newburyport, Essex, MA with intentions filed 29 May 1803.[13]  Daniel was born 28 February 1774 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.[14]  He was the son of Daniel and Sarah (KNIGHT) LUNT.  He died September 1804 at sea.  His cenotaph is at First Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.[15]  She married third to Thomas HUGGETT.  He was born about 1774.  He died 20 March 1820.  He is interred at First Parish Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.
  3. Mary BRAGDON was born about 1782 and died about 1809. She married Edmund SHACKLEY 13 November 1803 in Kennebunk, York, ME.[16] Edmund was born about 1780 in Kennebunk, York, ME.  He was the son of John and Sarah (NASON) SHACKLEY.  He died after 30 August 1850 in Kennebunk, York, ME.
