Pelatiah PERKINS

Pelatiah is my sixth great granduncle through John and Elizabeth (PIERCE) PERKINS; my third cousin nine times removed and fourth cousin seven times removed through Joseph and Abigail (PAUL) ALCOCK; and he’s my fourth cousin six times removed through John and Elizabeth (BIRCHARD) ALCOCK.  He served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Captain Edward Grow’s Company and in Captain Philip Hubbard’s Company, protecting the seacoast in Kittery Point and other nearby locations.[1] He lived in York County, Maine his entire life a portion of it on the west side of Brandy Brook on the Old Post Road.[2]

Pelatiah PERKINS was born 1754 and baptized 8 December 1754 in Wells, York, Maine.[3]  He was the son of John and Elizabeth (PIERCE) Perkins.  He died sometime after 1840.[4]  He married Eunice TRAFTON 1776, with the dates of 13 July 1776 listed as both marriage and intentions and 7 August 1776 as another date all taking place in York County, Maine[5].  Eunice was born 25 January 1752 in York, York, Maine.[6]  She was the daughter of Thaddeus and Abigail (LEWIS) TRAFTON.  She died 26 May 1822 in York County, Maine.[7]  Eunice is my third cousin six times removed through William and Dorothy (DIXON) MOORE.  Pelatiah and Eunice are not blood relations.

Pelatiah and Eunice had the following children:

  1. Lucy PERKINS She was baptized 31 August 1777 in Wells, York, Maine at the First Church of Wells.[8]  She died 10 December 1862; her gravestone says she was born 10 October 1782 in York, York, Maine.[9]  She is interred at Locust Grove Cemetery in Ogunquit, York, Maine.[10]  Lucy married Ebenezer LITTLEFIELD 11 May 1804.[11]
  2. Stover PERKINS was born before 1784 in York, York, Maine.[12] He died in September 1838 in York County, Maine.  Stover married Sarah “Sally” STEVENS 25 April 1821 in Kittery, York, Maine with intentions filed 26 August 1820 in York, York, Maine.[13]
  3. Samuel PERKINS was born about 1784 in York, York, Maine.[14] Samuel died March 1850 of a tumor in York, York, Maine.[15]  Samuel married Ruthy LUNT 1 November 1807 in York, York, Maine.[16]
  4. Pelatiah PERKINS was born in November 1786.[17] He died 1 Mar 1817 unmarried in York County, Maine.[18]
  5. Elizabeth “Betsy” PERKINS was born 1793 in York, York, Maine.[19] She was baptized 7 September 1797 in Wells, York, Maine at the First Church of Wells.[20]  She died between 12 January 1860 and 17 January 1860.[21] Elizabeth is interred at York Cemetery in York, York, Maine.[22]   Elizabeth married Samuel O. PARSONS 27 November 1825 in York, York, Maine with intentions filed 3 November 1825 in York, York, Maine.[23]
  6. Abigail “Nabby” PERKINS was born 1795 in York, York, Maine.[24] She was baptized 7 September 1797 in Wells, York, Maine at the First Church of Wells.[25]  She died 29 May 1876.[26]  Abigail married Captain William SEAVEY 3 February 1818 in York, York, Maine with intentions filed 24 December 1817 in York, York, Maine.[27]

Sarah WEARE

Sarah is my third cousin eight times removed.  We are related through William and Frances HILTON, my tenth great grandparents.  Her husband Captain Thomas BRAGDON was a Revolutionary War Veteran having served from 10 July 1775 to 8 December 1780.[1]

Sarah WEARE was born 6 June 1743 in York, York, ME.[2]  She is the daughter of Joseph and Mary (WEBBER) WEARE.  Sarah died 22 March 1787 or 1789 in York County, ME.[3]  She married Captain Thomas BRAGDON 13 or 16 September 1764 in York, York, ME by Rev. Isaac LYMAN, intentions filed 16 August 1764.[4]  Thomas was born 8 April 1738 in York, York, ME.[5]  He was the son of Thomas and Mary (CAME) BRAGDON.  He died either in 1811 in York County, ME or 1828.[6]

Sarah and Thomas had the following children:

  1. John Weare BRAGDON born about 1771.[7] He died 1855.[8] He married Hannah CHASE 29 August 1795 in York, York, ME.[9]
  2. Sarah BRAGDON was born 2 March 1771 in York, York, ME. She died of old age on 17 October 1855 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.[10]  She married three times.  First to William HINCKLEY 10 June 1796 in York, York, ME.[11]  William was born about 1773.  He died April 1798 at sea.  His cenotaph is at First Parish Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.[12]   Second she married Daniel LUNT 25 September 1803 in Newburyport, Essex, MA with intentions filed 29 May 1803.[13]  Daniel was born 28 February 1774 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.[14]  He was the son of Daniel and Sarah (KNIGHT) LUNT.  He died September 1804 at sea.  His cenotaph is at First Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.[15]  She married third to Thomas HUGGETT.  He was born about 1774.  He died 20 March 1820.  He is interred at First Parish Burying Ground in Newbury, Essex, MA.
  3. Mary BRAGDON was born about 1782 and died about 1809. She married Edmund SHACKLEY 13 November 1803 in Kennebunk, York, ME.[16] Edmund was born about 1780 in Kennebunk, York, ME.  He was the son of John and Sarah (NASON) SHACKLEY.  He died after 30 August 1850 in Kennebunk, York, ME.
