Sarah “Sally” HASLAM

Sarah is my first cousin five times removed.  We are related through her grandparents, my fifth great grandparents, Solomon I. and Christiana (SIMONTON) JORDAN.  She is also my third cousin six times removed through her second great grandparents my eighth great grandparents Richard and Hannah (HALEY)  WESCOTT.  And we are fifth cousins eight times removed through her second great grandparents, my ninth great grandparents John and Elizabeth (BIRCHARD) ALCOCK.  She is the daughter of George and Hannah (JORDAN) HASLAM.  Horace and Sarah were enumerated in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census taken in Sanford, York, ME.[1]  Sarah was enumerated with her son Horace’s family in 1900 taken in Sanford, York, ME.[2]

Sarah “Sally” Colby HASLAM was born 16 February 1816 in Waltham, Hancock, ME.  She died 30 November 1901 in Sanford, York, ME.  Sarah was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[3]  Sarah married Horace BENNETT 7 June 1837.  Horace was born 9 October 1813 in South Sanford, York, ME.  He is the son of Rufus and Anna (BACHELDER) BENNETT.

Sarah and Horace had the following children:

  1. Nelson A. born 5 December 1839 in Sanford, York, ME. He died of cancer of the stomach on 22 July 1907 in Sanford, York, ME.[4]  He was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[5]  Nelson married Abigail Jane NOWELL.  Abigail was born 21 August 1838 in ME.  She was the daughter of Samuel and Emily (HANSON) NOWELL.  She died 12 September 1915 in ME.  Abigail is interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[6]
  2. Ellen A. was born in 1841 in Sanford, York, ME. She died 2 November 1856 in Sanford, York, ME.  She was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[7]
  3. Bradford S. was born April 1844 in Sanford, York, ME. He died 25 June 1880 in Sanford, York, ME.  He is interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[8]  Bradford married Florence Mary EMERY.  Florence was born 15 September 1850 in Sanford, York, ME.  She died 26 February 1915 in Sanford, York, ME.  Florence was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[9]
  4. Horace Tisdale was born 15 February 1847 in Sanford, York, ME. He died 18 March 1917 in Sanford, York, ME.  Horace was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[10]  Horace married Marcia Ann GOODWIN.  Marcia was born 29 March 1956 in Sanford, York, ME.  She died 25 February 1914 in Sanford, York, ME.  Marcia is interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[11]
  5. Walter E. was born about 1851 in South Sanford, York, ME. He married Helen A. FLANDERS 25 December 1876 in Rochester, Strafford, NH.[12]  Helen was born about 1853 in South Sanford, York, ME.  She is the daughter of Samuel B. and Marcia FLANDERS.
  6. Ellen Mercy Annie was born 4 May 1854 in Sanford, York, ME. She died 6 June 1930 in Sanford, York, ME.  She is interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[13]  Ellen married twice; first she married Elias J. FLETCHER.  Second she married Moses Sweat MOULTON.  Moses was born 8 June 1863 in Sanford, York, ME.  He died 22 January 1938 in Sanford, York, ME.  Moses was interred at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, York, ME.[14]

Ebenezer COBB

Ebenezer is my sixth great granduncle.  We are related through his grandparents Jonathan and Hope (CHIPMAN) COBB, my eighth great grandparents.  We are also related through his grandparents Captain Joseph and Joanna (THOMAS) VAUGHAN, my eighth great grandparents.  Ebenezer is the fifth child of Jonathan and Elizabeth (VAUGHAN) COBB.  Ebenezer is a Mayflower descendant related to John HOWLAND, Elizabeth TILLEY, John TILLEY and Joan HURST.  Ebenezer was taxed 18 November 1766 for 3s 4d and 8s 10d in Falmouth, Cumberland, ME he also was charged a vessel tax, but the records don’t state an amount.[1]  He was in Captain Loring Cushing’s Cape Elizabeth Company in the local militia.[2]  He was a defendant in a debt case at the York Court of Common Pleas.[3]  Ebenezer received 20 acres of land from his father in the Maiden Cove part of Falmouth, Cumberland, ME 14 December 1744.[4]

Ebenezer COBB was born 19 February 1721 in Falmouth, Cumberland, ME.[5]  He died 12 December 1777 in Cumberland, Cumberland, ME.  Ebenezer married twice; he married first Rebecca WHITFIELD about 1748 in ME.  Rebecca was born about 1733 in ME or MA.  She died about 1776 in ME.  He married second Rachel SAWYER 22 November 1770 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.[6]  Rachel was born 16 June 1749 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.[7]  She is the daughter of Joseph and Joanna (COBB) SAWYER.  Rachel is my second cousin seven times removed, we are related through two sets of great grandparents, Jonathan and Hope (CHIPMAN) COBB and Joseph and Joanna (THOMAS) VAUGHAN, and they are my eighth great grandparents.

Ebenezer and Rebecca had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth “Betsey” was born 15 October 1749 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME. She died 15 June 1831 in Durham, Androscoggin, ME.  She is interred at Strout Cemetery in Durham, Androscoggin, ME.[8]  It does not note that she married again, so could the marriage to Joseph PROCTOR be her?  Elizabeth married twice first to Joshua STROUT 6 April 1769 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.  He was born in 1745 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.  He died 3 December 1793 in the West Indies. Joshua was interred at Strout Cemetery in Durham, Androscoggin, ME.[9]  Elizabeth married second, Joseph PROCTOR 25 July 1795 in Durham, Androscoggin, ME.[10]
  2. Colonel Jedediah born 4 May 1752 in Gray, Cumberland, ME.[11] He died 16 June 1816 in Gray, Cumberland, ME.[12]  He was interred at Gray Village Cemetery in Gray, Cumberland, ME.[13]  Jedediah married Abigail JORDAN 3 November 1778, intentions filed 16 October 1778.[14] Abigail was born 7 January 1756 in Falmouth, Cumberland, ME.[15]  She is the daughter of Colonel Nathaniel and Hannah (WOODBURY) JORDAN.  She is my second cousin six times removed; we are related through her great grandparents, my seventh great grandparents, Dominicus and Hannah (TRISTRAM) JORDAN.  Abigail died 23 June 1816 in Gray, Cumberland, ME.[16]  She is interred at Gray Village Cemetery in Gray, Cumberland, ME.[17]
  3. Rebecca was born in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME. Rebecca married Nathaniel STEVENS after August 1782.  Nathaniel was born February 1761 in Townsend, Middlesex, MA.  He was the son of Jonas STEVENS.  He died 30 June 1816.

Ebenezer and Rachel had the following children:

  1. Mercy was born 5 October 1773 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.[18] She died 16 July 1830 in Buxton, York, ME.[19]  She married Thomas Pennell SAWYER 26 December 1793 in Falmouth, Cumberland, ME.  Thomas was born 5 April 1770 in Buxton, York, ME.  He is the son of Jabez and Mary (PENNELL) SAWYER.  Thomas is my third cousin six times removed, we are related through two of his second great grandparents, my eighth great grandparents; Jonathan and Hope (CHIPMAN) COBB and Captain Joseph and Joanna (THOMAS) VAUGHAN.  Thomas and Nancy are first cousins through their grandparents Joseph and Joanna (COBB) SAWYER, and second cousins through their second great grandparents noted above.  Thomas died 21 June 1818.
  2. Joanna was born 11 May 1775 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, ME.[20] She married Joseph SAWYER Joseph was born April 1774 in Buxton, York, ME.  Joseph was the son of Jabez and Mary (PENNELL) SAWYER, and brother of Thomas Pennell SAWYER.  Thomas is my third cousin six times removed, we are related through two of his second great grandparents, my eighth great grandparents; Jonathan and Hope (CHIPMAN) COBB and Captain Joseph and Joanna (THOMAS) VAUGHAN.  Thomas and Nancy are first cousins through their grandparents Joseph and Joanna (COBB) SAWYER, and second cousins through their second great grandparents noted above.
