Jeremiah Francis GRINDLE

Jeremiah is my second cousin six times removed in three different lines of the family.  Jeremiah’s wife Joanna is my third cousin five times removed and fourth cousin four times removed in two different lines.  Jeremiah and Joanna are not related by blood.  Jeremiah was enumerated with his mother and siblings in Brooksville, Hancock, ME in the 1850 census.[1]  He and Joanna are enumerated in the 1860 and 1870 censuses in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[2]  In the 1880 census the family is living in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH.[3]  He was a farmer and ship carpenter.  He was drafted into the Civil War on 21 October 1864 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[4]  Other than the censuses, I can find no records on the children of Jeremiah and Joanna.

Jeremiah Francis GRINDLE was born 30 November 1830 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[5]  Jeremiah is the son of Ichabod and Judith (GRINDLE) GRINDLE.  He died of a sudden death, with no medical attendant on 11 April 1895 Yarmouth, Hancock, ME.[6]  He is interred at the Grindle Family Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[7]  Jeremiah married Joanna P. GRAY 19 February 1853 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[8]  Joanna was born 26 April 1828 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.  She is the daughter of Abner J. and Elizabeth W. (STANLEY) GRAY.  She died 27 March 1921 in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[9]  She is interred at the Grindle Family Cemetery in Brooksville, Hancock, ME.[10]

Jeremiah and Joanna had the following children:

  1. Frank B. born December 1858 in Maine.
