John Patten JELLISON

John is my first cousin six times removed; we are related through his grandparents, my sixth great grandparents, Benjamin and Agnes (PATTEN) JELLISON.  John and wife Susan were enumerated with one or more children in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses taken in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[1]

John Patten JELLISON was born 10 May 1803 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  He died 15 February 1876 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  He was interred at Nicolin Cemetery [also known as North Ellsworth Cemetery] in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[2]  John married Susan TOURTELLOT in 1837.  Susan was born 1807 in ME.  She was the daughter of Abraham and Rebecca (MADDOX) TOURTELLOT.  Susan died due to a fracture of the thigh on 19 January 1898 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[3]  She was interred at South Ellsworth Cemetery, Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.

John and Susan had the following children:

  1. Malissa was born 3 October 1836 and died 11 October 1836. She was interred at Nicolin Cemetery [also known as North Ellsworth Cemetery] in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[4]
  2. Julia Ann was born September 1834. She died 19 August 1835.  She is interred at Nicolin Cemetery [also known as North Ellsworth Cemetery], in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[5]
  3. Arvilla was born 1838 in Maine. Arvilla married Sans B. SALIBURY 30 April 1857 in Otis, Hancock, ME.  Sans was born 8 September 1824 in Trenton, Hancock, ME.  He is the son of Aaron and Margaret (BUNKER) SALISBURY.  Sans died 8 August 1906 in Otis, Hancock, ME. [I’m unsure what happened to Arvilla, it seems that Sans married again two years after their marriage or marriage intention and had many children with a woman named Margaret A., is she the same woman as Arvilla?  I’ve checked divorce records, death records and a few other types of records and no Arvilla have died with the SALISBURY surname in Maine to this day.]
  4. Rebecca P. was born in 1845. She married Asahel T. ROWELL 23 March 1867 in Holden, Penobscot, ME.[6] Ashel was born in 1839.  He is the son of Stephen and Mary C. ROWELL.  [I believe they moved to Indiana, Ohio or other western area, as there are no records of them in the state of Maine after their marriage.]
  5. Adelaide P. was born 1848 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME. She died 28 June 1878 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME. She was interred at Nicolin Cemetery [also known as North Ellsworth Cemetery], in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.[7]   Adelaide married George Washington WENTWORTH 30 March 1876 in Maine.  George was born 24 February 1841 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  He was the son of John and Mary (ALLEY) WENTWORTH.  George died 1914 in Ellsworth, Hancock, ME.  [Adelaide’s mother Susan moved in with George after her death to help with raising her daughter Carrie.  I don’t know how long she Susan lived in his home as he married again, and Susan didn’t die until 1898]

Lewis CAMERON

Lewis is my first cousin four times removed; we are related through his grandparents, my fourth great grandparents, Olive Eugene and Adelia (LEDGER) LAJEEUNESSE.  He was enumerated in the 1870 in North Hero, Grand Isle, VT with his parents.[1]  Lewis was enumerated in 1880 in North Hero, Grand Isle, VT as a servant for the farm next door to his parents.[2]  From 1900 to 1930 he was enumerated in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT with his wife Lena and one or more of his children and in later years their spouses and grandchildren in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[3]  He was enumerated with his new wife Mary in the 1940 censuses in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT next door to her son Wilfred P. DUFAULT.[4]  Lewis worked as a farmer his whole life, even when he was a “servant” his job was farm laborer also, seems that he never retired from farming, even in his last years of life in the 70’s.

Lewis CAMERON was born either 10 February 1861 in North Hero, Grand Isle, VT or born 15 February 1863 in North Hero, Grand Isle, VT the older date may have been a previous child of the family and the latter date his true birth, I can find no death of a child before the 1963 birth of Lewis.[5]  Lewis died 31 January 1941 in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT of cardiac failure.[6]  He is interred at South Hero Cemetery in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[7]  Lewis married twice, first was Lina Emma CAMERON 29 May 1882 in St. Albans, Franklin, VT, by Father George N. CAISSEY.[8]  Lina was born 3 Jul 1861 in North Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[9]  She was the daughter of Prosper (John) and Charlotte (YOUNG/LAJEUNESSE) CAMERON.  She died of bronchial pneumonia 29 January 1932 in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[10]  Lina was interred at South Hero Cemetery in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[11]  He married second Mary M. (SOCIA) DUFAULT 17 November 1934 by Rev. Merle SHANTZ in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[12]

Lewis and Lina had the following children:

  1. Elder J. born 7 July 1879 in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[13] He died 28 December 1923 in South Hero, VT.[14] Elder married Bertha DUCHAM 17 March 1902 in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT.[15]  She was born about 1885.  Bertha was the daughter of Davis and Linda (BUSHEY) DUCHAM.
  2. Ethel Rose SMITH

According to family lore, Ethel (my great grand aunt) was the much doted upon sister of my much loved great grandfather Charles Lesley SMITH.  Ethel lost her mother Mary, at the age of 25 years, three years before her first child was born.  Her father remarried seven years later to Margery Alvina TEETER.  Ethel’s father WSmith, Ethel Rose 3illiam died from complications from a train accident when she was 44 years old.  She was survived by her brother Charlie. Ethel died just over six months after the death of her husband Cliff.   Ethel was enumerated in the 1900 census in Standish, Arenac, MI living with her father and mother.[1]  They were enumerated in the 1910 census in Monarch, Cascade, MT.[2]  The family was enumerated in the 1920 census taken in Lebam, Pacific, WA.[3]  In the 1930 census she was living in Seattle, King, WA at 4516 Seattle Street with her husband and children. The final census available was the 1940 census taken in Holden, Chelan, WA.[4]
