What evidence do you have that James Simonton is the son of Andrew Simonton and Elizabeth Cobb? That has been my suspicion as well, but I have never been able to find documentation supporting. I am a descendant of James Simonton through his daughter Elizabeth Simonton who married John Gregory.

Thank you for your question. It’s been a while since I worked on that portion of my family tree, the sources that I used are PDF files of some books that are approved by the Daughters of the American Revolution as sources. There is a mention in the Mayflower descendants and the book “The Family Jordan” by Adelbert Jean Annonson. I’ve noticed on FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com that there are new hints that I have not included in my sources and I’m sure on GenGophers.com there are a few books sourcing this also. In the DAR records it only shows him and his descendants, there is no mention of his parents. I don’t know if on the Sons of the Revolution applications if there is a mention of his parents. Parents are often mentioned in their applications and sometimes some info about the parents. Not sure why the Simonton family is not listed in the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire by Sybil Noys, Charles Thornton Libby and Walter Goodwin Davis. If you don’t have a copy of the book you should get it if you are working on the early days of Maine and New Hampshire, it’s a great resource available through New England Historic Genealogical Society. If you belong to the organization you will find many resources on the Simonton family.
I’m sorry I can’t be of more help at the moment, I changed computers and for some odd reason some of my PDF books were not transferred to the new computer.
The coming year I plan to update all the families I have blogged about. I’ve spent the last few years just getting more sources for family closer in generations and other family lines that are more elusive. I’m going back to my easy family searches next year.

Have a great holiday season and hope 2021 is a better year.
