Joseph C. CALEF

Joseph is my first cousin seven times removed through Dominicus and Hannah (TRISTRAM) JORDAN.

Joseph C. CALEF was born 4 November 1724 and/or baptized 8 November 1724 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[1]   His parents were Joseph C. and Hannah (JORDAN) CALEF.  He died 31 May 1776 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[2]  He is interred at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[3]  Joseph married Mehitable C. MILLER 12 September 1758 in Boston, Suffolk, Maine also listed as intention 21 September 1758 in Boston, Suffolk, Maine, which I believe was a typographical error.[4]  Mehitable was born 27 April 1735 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts other dates listed for her are 3 and 4 May 1735, I believe one of the May dates may be her baptism date.[5]  She was the daughter of Col. Samuel and Rebecca (MINOT) MILLER.  She died 13 April 1790 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts there is also recorded date 30 September 1790 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[6]  She is interred at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[7]

Joseph and Mehitable had the following children;

  1. Joseph CALEF born 12 December 1758 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[8]  He died 29 March 1797 in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine.[9]  He was a yeoman.[10]  He served in the Revolutionary War for twelve days guarding the shores of Maine in Capt. Jonah Voses’s Co. 1776.[11]  Joseph married Abigail MARR 29 March 1797 in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine.[12]  Abigail is my second cousin seven times removed; we are related through Roger and Mary (CROSS) HILL.  Joseph and Abigail are not related by blood.
  2. Samuel CALEF born 12 December 1758 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[13] He died unmarried in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine.[14]  He served in the Revolutionary War for twelve days guarding the shores of Maine in Capt. Jonah Voses’s Co. 1776.[15]
  3. Ebenezer Winter CALEF born 17 August 1760 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[16] He died 9 February 1829.[17]  He was a merchant in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[18]  Ebenezer married Sarah GIBSON 1 February 1800 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[19]
  4. Hannah CALEF born 1 March 1763 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[20] She died 1855 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York.  She is interred in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts.  Hannah married Samuel Miller THAYER 24 July 1793 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[21]
  5. Mehitable Miller CALEF was born 1 September 1765 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[22] According to her death record she was born 30 September 1765 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[23]  She died in 26 October 1844 or November 1844 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[24]  Mehitable married Col. Thomas LEGETT.[25]  They had no children.
  6. Stephen Miller CALEF was born 9 September 1767 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[26] He died after 1820.[27]  Stephen married Rebecca 7 December 1807 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine by George E. Vaughan, justice of the peace; intentions filed 26 November 1807 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine.[28]
  7. Robert Jordan CALEF was born 9 May 1770 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[29] He died 22 March 1776 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[30]  He is interred at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[31]
  8. Rebecca Thayer CALEF was born 17 September 1772 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts; although there are three dates listed as her birth date, 17 September 1772, 27 May 1772 and 17 September 1762, I believe that the 17 September 1772 date is the correct date since her birth records are showing that date the other dates are from other records recorded at a later time.[32] She died of dropsy 4 October 1858 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[33]  She is interred at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[34]  Rebecca married Joseph Neals HOWE, they had no children.[35]
  9. John CALF was born 27 May 1776 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts; as with other children in the family there are numerous birth dates listed for him; 1767, 9 May 1776 and 27 May 1776, I believe the 27 May date to be correct since that is the date of both birth records on file.[36] He died 30 March 1777 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[37]  He is interred at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[38]
