Ambrose EMERY

Emery, Ambrose 32007

Ambrose EMERY is my first cousin eight times removed; we are related through John and Ruth (HARTSHORN) WATSON.  He in the French and Indian War also known as the Seven Years War, he was in Captain Jonathan Butterfield’s Company, enlisted 11 October 1756; during the Crown Point Expedition he was listed as “killed or taken,” but in reality, was wounded by an arrow.[1]  It is believed that he participated in the Boston Tea Party, but there is some doubt as he lived in Philadelphia at the time; he served in the Revolutionary War as a private 6th class in the 3rd battalion, 1st company Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania under Captain Israel Jones.[2]  He also lived near General Washington’s winter home; it is believed that his wife cooked the soldiers rations while they camped nearby.[3]

Ambrose EMERY was born 25 February 1737 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[4]  He was the son of James and Ruth (WATSON) EMERY.  He died 1824 in Jefferson, Green, Pennsylvania.[5]  His body was interred at Emery Cemetery on the W. L. Price Farm in Cumberland, Greene, Pennsylvania.[6]  Ambrose married Catherine FOSTER 17 July 1762 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts[7].  Catherine was born in 1742.  She was the daughter of John and Catherine (RAGIN) FOSTER.  Ambrose married second to Rebecca YOCUM in 1770.[8]  Rebecca was born 5 June 1754 in Upper Marion, Montgomery, Pennsylvania.[9]  She is the daughter of John and Elizabeth (DEHAVEN) YOCUM.  She died 1843 in Jefferson, Greene, Pennsylvania[10].

  • Sarah EMERY was born 14 March 1762 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[11] She died in 1848 in Massachusetts.  Sarah married David MCCLEARY 2 July 1801.  David was born 14 January 1750 in Methuen, Essex, Massachusetts[12].  He was the son of Daniel and Mary (MILLIKEN ) MCCLEARY.  He died in 1839 in Methuen, Essex, Massachusetts.  His body is interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, Essex, Massachusetts.[13]
  • Ruth EMERY was born 2 February 1764 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[14]
  • Daniel EMERY was born 2 November 1765 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[15] He died 25 December 1765 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[16]  He was interred in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[17]
  • Lydia EMERY was born 12 April 1769 in Dracut, Middlesex, Massachusetts; She is also listed as born 4 April 1768 in Massachusetts on her death record. [18] She died 17 July 1844 of old age in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts.[19]  Lydia married Abel WILLEY/WILLIS 12 August 1788 in Thornton, Grafton, New Hampshire.[20]  Abel was born 6 February 1761 in Thornton, Grafton, New Hampshire.  He was the son of Abel and Mary (FOWLER) WILLEY/WILLIS.  He died 9 May 1835 in Shipton, Richmond, Quebec.

  • John Gidden EMERY/EMERIE born 1771 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[21] He died 1842 in Old, Forsyth, North Carolina.  His body was interred at the Presbyterian Cemetery in New Market, Highland, Ohio.[22]  He served in the War of 1812.[23]  John married Margaret Crawford ROSS March 1800 in Hillsborough, Highland, Ohio[24].  Margaret was born 11 August 1779 in Newtownstewart, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.  She was the daughter of Oliver Crawford and Frances Eleanor (ST CLAIR) ROSS.  She died 20 September 1838 in New Market, Highland, Ohio.  Her body was interred at the Presbyterian Cemetery in New Market, Highland, Ohio.[25]
  • Charles EMERY born 1773 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania[26]. Charles died in 1773 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • James EMERY born 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[27] James died in 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Elizabeth EMERY born 30 April 1776 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She died 5 March 1830 in Chester, Pennsylvania.  Her body is interred at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Chester, Pennsylvania.[28]  Elizabeth married John CROWL 20 September 1795 in West Grove, Chester, Pennsylvania.  John was born 10 June 1766 in Scotland, United Kingdom.  He was the son of Alexander CROWL.  He died 15 July 1825 in Oxford, Chester, Pennsylvania.  His body was interred at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Chester, Pennsylvania.[29]
  • Samuel EMERY born 8 March 1779 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[30] He died 5 April 1856 in New Market, Highland, Ohio.  He is interred at Presbyterian Cemetery in New Market, Highland, Ohio.[31]  Samuel married Sarah ANDERSON 8 April 1808 in Cumberland, Greene, Pennsylvania.[32]  Sarah was born 11 September 1790 in Green, Forest, Pennsylvania.[33]  She was the daughter of Richard and Mary ANDERSON.  She died 6 April 1881.  Her body is interred at Presbyterian Cemetery in New Market, Highland, Ohio.[34]
  • Clementine EMERY born 17 November 1784 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania[35]. She died 30 October 1862 in Clarksville, Greene, Pennsylvania.  Her body is interred at Arford Cemetery, Cross Plains, Ripley, Indiana.[36]  Clementine married Samuel KENNEDY 11 February 1813 in Greene, Pennsylvania.  Samuel was born 1785 in Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland.  He was the son of James and Margaret (WHITE) KENNEDY.  He died December 1850 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania.
  • Rebecca EMERY born 1786 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[37] She died unmarried, September 1869 in Greene County, Pennsylvania.[38]
  • Jonas Reece EMERY born 23 July 1788 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[39] He died 13 June 1857 in Greene County, Pennsylvania.  Jonas married Susan MORRIS.[40]  Susan was born 4 February 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She was the daughter of Asa and Susan (HERROD) MORRIS.  She died 17 June 1879 in Greene, Pennsylvania.  He married second to Rebecca Edwards MARSHALL.[41]
  • Ambrose EMERY born 23 November 1790 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[42] He died 8 July 1873 in Scotland, Greene, Pennsylvania.  He is interred at Taylor Ridge Cemetery in Scotland, Greene, Pennsylvania.[43]  Ambrose married Mary ANDERSON in 1812 in Greene, Pennsylvania.[44]  Mary was born 1795 in Cumberland, Greene, Pennsylvania.[45]  She was the daughter of Richard and Mary ANDERSON, sister of Sarah ANDERSON married to Samuel EMERY.  She died 21 March 1870 in Scotland, Greene, Pennsylvania.  She is interred at Taylor Ridge Cemetery in Scotland, Greene, Pennsylvania.[46]
  • Nathaniel EMERY born 8 February 1793 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[47] He died 12 January 1846 in Pike Township, Coshocton, Ohio.  His body is interred at Broomstick Cemetery in Coshocton, Ohio.[48]  Nathaniel married Elizabeth BOTTS in 1816 in Greene, Pennsylvania.  Elizabeth was born 1794 in Luzerne, Fayette, Pennsylvania.  She was the daughter of John and Hannah BOTTS.  She died 9 June 1856 in Coshocton, Ohio.  She is interred at Broomstick Cemetery in Coshocton, Ohio.[49]
  • Jesse EMERY born 1794 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[50] He died 4 June 1873 in Mt. Vernon, Knox, Ohio.  Jesse married Hannah SIMONTON about 1819 in Greene, Pennsylvania.  Hannah was born about 1796 in Knox, Ohio.  She died in Mount Vernon, Knox, Ohio.
