John JORDAN

John is my fourth cousin five times removed.  We are related through Reverend Robert and Sarah (WINTER) JORDAN.  John and family were enumerated in the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 U.S. census population schedules taken in Coventry, Kent, RI.  In all the censuses he was listed as a farmer.[1]  He was enumerated with his wife, son William and his wife in the 1865 Rhode Island state census, again listed as a farmer.[2]

John JORDAN was born 6 June 1799 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[3]  He was the son of Edmund and Elizabeth (GREENE) JORDAN.  He died 15 February 1883 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[4]  He is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[5]  John married Mercy WEAVER 9 January 1819.[6]  Mercy was born 20 May 1800 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[7]  She is the daughter of Captain John and Ruth (WILBUR) WEAVER.  She died 11 July 1893 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[8]  She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[9]

John and Mercy had the following children:

  1. Caroline JORDAN died in 1833. She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[10]
  2. George W. JORDAN was born 22 January 1820 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[11] He died 21 November 1899 in Coventry, Kent, RI.  George is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[12]  He married Ruth Ann HALL 28 November 1839 in Warwick, Kent, RI.[13]  Ruth Ann was born 2 February 1822 in Warwick, Kent, RI.  She was the daughter of Isaac and Susan C. HALL.  She died 6 May 1905.[14] Ruth is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[15]
  3. Susan R. JORDAN was born 11 October 1821. She died 25 March 1913.  She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[16]  Susan married two times; first to William TAYLOR 26 November 1840 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[17]  She married second to Charles ANDREWS 17 August 1885.  Charles was born in 1825.  He died 2 January 1890.  He is interred at Edmond Andrews Lot in Coventry, Kent, RI.[18]
  4. Hannah Poole JORDAN was born 23 April 1827 in Coventry, Kent, RI. She died 11 January 1904 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[19]  She married Hiram LINDALL 9 November 1846 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[20]  Hiram was born in 4 August 1826 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[21]  He was the son of Abel and Mary LINDALL.  He died 1918 in Coventry, Kent, RI.  He is interred at Woodland Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[22]
  5. Sarah “Sally” A. JORDAN was born about 1829. She died 25 August 1840.
  6. Mercy A. JORDAN was born about 1831. She died 1921.  She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[23]  Mercy married Wilbur Tillinghast GREENE 5 July 1852 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[24]  Wilbur was born in 1827.  He was the son of Elisha and Hannah (JONES) GREENE.  He died 15 August 1896.[25]  He is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[26]
  7. Ruth E. JORDAN was born about 1833. She died 23 January 1837.  She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[27]
  8. Caroline Jordan was born 1836. She died 18 January 1837.
  9. John F. JORDAN was born 29 May 1837 in Coventry, Kent, RI. He died 14 January 1905. He is interred at Glendford Cemetery in North Scituate, Providence, RI.[28]  He married Lydia A.  Lydia was born 7 Jun 1838 in Foster, Providence, RI.[29]  She died 22 January 1894 RI.  He was interred at Glendford Cemetery in North Scituate, Providence, RI.[30]
  10. Mary E. JORDAN died 25 July 1839 at less than 1 year old. She is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[31]
  11. William Henry JORDAN was born 1840 in Greene, Kent, RI. He died 1 August 1925 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[32]  He is interred at Hopkins Hollow Cemetery in Coventry, Kent, RI.[33]  William married twice; first to Sophia.  He married second to Sarah M. EASTERBROOK 20 December 1920 in Coventry, Kent, RI.[34]
  12. Sarah Jane Jordan was born about 1844 in RI.
  13. Caroline Jordan was born in 1844. She died 3 October 1845.
